Managing Your Social Media When You Are On Holiday

Are you going to be leaving the office for a holiday this summer? Are you worried about how you are going to keep your social media posts updated regularly? Your social media channels are a direct form of communication with your customers and clients, therefore abandoning your social media channels for the holiday period would not be your smartest move. This is where the importance of scheduling posts and planning ahead comes into play!

There are a variety of social media channels and also additional programmes like Hootsuite that will allow you to schedule your social media updates in advance. You can write all of your posts prior to your holiday, upload them like you would any other status and then select the date and precise time that you would like them to appear. This is a fantastic way of keeping your business active online in your absence. It might be worth sitting down with a diary and looking if there are any significant events happening when you are on holiday, you can write and schedule posts that are relative to these. A couple of weeks before you go on holiday you could also start making notes and recording any interesting articles that you have read that you think might be of interest to your customers. By scheduling things in advance you will be able to maintain a continual online business presence, reminding your customers that your business exists.

However, if you are usually a particularly active business user on social media, engaging with customers, replying to tweets, messages and enquiries’ etc, it is vital that this relationship is maintained even when you are away. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to be stuck to your phone whilst you are away but it does mean that you will probably have to find someone that will help the management of your social channels whilst you are away. You will have to plan ahead and determine how long you will need someone to be active on your social media accounts each day in order for you to maintain that strong online relationship that you have built with your customers. This option can also be beneficial to your business particularly if you can occasionally update your social media channels in real time. Therefore if there is an exciting industry announcement or great story in the news, the person managing your social media will be able to post about it as soon as it happens which again will assist with creating a positive business to customer engagement.

Whatever option you might take, whether you are happy to let your scheduled posts do their job or whether you employ someone to manage and monitor your channels whilst you are away you can enjoy your holiday knowing that your social channels will remain active even in your absence.
