Many small businesses spend too many hours trying to make social media work for them. Social media is free to use, but it can still be costly. As the saying goes, time is money and, by spending too much time on social networking sites, you could inadvertently be losing precious finances. Even big businesses can run up a considerable tab in both lost time and money.

Here are some ways to save time and get results when using social media, according to marketing consultant and author, John Jantsch.

Content is King
“Create a content stockpile. As a part of your social media schedule, set up a time during the week where you or a chosen employee sit down and brainstorm content ideas for blog posts, status updates, tweets, etc. This will eliminate any stress of having to come up with something on the spot from one week to the next. Then, when the time comes to update your posts, you can just select something from the pile and post.”

The advice above is a great way to organize the posts you are going to be publishing. Also, you can use this to ramp up to anything eventful that your business may cook up. It can be used as a marketing tool, as well as for advertising. This will also help your business avoid posting mediocre content just for the sake of being active.

Link Your Networks

“When you are doing things on your own, it can be hard to find the time to post to multiple accounts. You can link each of your profiles so that when you post on one account, say your Facebook page, then it is also sent out to the others and vice versa. Some people prefer certain social networking sites over others, so ensure you must cater to every individual that could be a potential customer.

Set Up a Schedule

“Despite what you might think—or have read or heard—you do not have to add a new post to every social network every day. This can eat up a lot of time from your daily schedule and leave you feeling just plain overwhelmed. The important thing is that when you do post, make sure it is valuable content that will generate a good response from your fans and followers.”

Posting regularly and consistently does not have to involve posting more than once a day, as well as posting each and every single day. You can update posts thrice a week and see results as long as your content is good. In fact, customers prefer company pages that keep their posting to a minimum since posting too much can look like flooding or spamming.

Social media can be an incredible tool for small businesses as long as it is used correctly. With some planning and organization, you can get the most out of your social media campaign without being a slave to it.
