Social media has become a very different ball game over recent years. Years ago you would have logged on to your social media account and connected with your friends to keep in touch with each other. Since then social media has evolved dramatically. It has become an effective tool for businesses to market to their target audience. Nowadays if your business is not on social media… then frankly you are missing out.


So how can you make your social media a success for your business?

Take the first steps now and create your social media accounts. Once you have taken the leap into the social sphere it is important that you update your social media channels on a regular basis. This is fundamental to your success on social media. There is no point in having a social media account that has not been updated in months! (This actually makes your business looks uninterested and quite lazy)

  1. Find the right social media channel for your business. Every social media account is different, some are visually based like Pinterest and Instagram, whereas when using twitter for example you are restricted to 140 characters worth of content. Therefore, it is important that you consider what type of content you will be posting and what social channel works best for this.
  2. Decide a schedule and try to keep to it. By creating a schedule of posts in advance, you will be less likely to forget or ignore your online social duties. Your followers and fans will get to know when your content is posted and will know when to check your channel for updates. Of course, this is not to say that you should not post in real time. If there is something happening in real time that is relevant to your business then post about it and acknowledge that you are aware of what is happening in your industry. This will help you become the expert in your industry.
  3. Post a variety of content. If you are posting on Pinterest or Instagram then yes you are slightly restricted in terms of the type of content that you can post. However when posting on channels like Facebook you have the opportunity to share a variety of forms of content with your followers and fans. You can posts text updates, images, videos, share others people content, link to blogs and articles and so on.
