Getting Your Website Found On Google is More Than Just Good Luck

If your business has an online presence and doesn’t have a good SEO strategy being applied to it, then it doesn’t matter what day of the year it is… you are ultimately doomed with bad luck.

Why should your website be found on google?

There are many different ways in which people might become aware of your business online. This could be via social media, through email marketing, through directly typing your website URL into their search bar (if they are already familiar with your business). What I haven’t mentioned here is Google search. Yes, Google search is one of the most common ways in which people will direct through to your website. Put simply if your website isn’t being found on Google search then you will be missing out on a lot of traffic through to your website and missing a lot of prospective business. 

You might be thinking well if people don’t know what my business is called then they aren’t going to know what to type into google to find us anyway. Well that isn’t the case!!! Google is very sophisticated and aims to provide its users with relevant websites related to the search terms that they type in. What I mean by this is… if for example, if you are an estate agent and someone types in the phrase “sell my home” Google will show web page results that are related to this term.  In order for your website to show for relevant terms that are associated with your industry then you need to ensure that your website has good SEO. SEO, Search Engine Optimisation involves a variety of strategies that help ensure that when someone searches for a keyword or phrase that your website lists.

What can you do to help your website get found on google?

Here are some basic things that can help improve your SEO

  • Carry out keyword research – choose approx. 10-15 keywords that are related to your business, you will need to carry out keyword research to ensure that the competition to list for the keyword isn’t too high and that the keyword has enough searches each month.
  • Ensure Meta Tags are completed – this includes a title, description and keyword.
  • Use search engine friendly URLs – you want to make it clear to Google what your page is about so if your have an about us page it makes sense for your URL to end in /about-us
  • Produce content on a regular basis – Google likes to provide its users with fresh and relevant information. Having a blog that you update regularly that includes your keywords can be very beneficial. This works great along side a website that has pages with keyword filled and informative content.
