How To Make Time For Social Media And Why This Is Vitally Important

As a keen digital marketer it pains me when I see a social media account that has not been updated for weeks, even more so months!! Social media presents a huge opportunity for businesses to increase their brand awareness, engage with their customers, attract new business, advertise products, release company updates and so on. With this in mind you might be thinking then why are businesses not making use of this great marketing tool… sadly the answer is TIME.

We live in a fast paced environment, where juggling a business alongside other commitments such your family, your friends, your exercise regime, or housework etc often means we are left chasing our tails. However, as the world becomes increasingly digital if you want to keep up with your competitors and you want to promote business success then you need to find the time to take control of your social media NOW.

Planning Ahead
One of the most basic yet most forgotten means of managing your social media is planning ahead. At the beginning of the week commit to spending an hour or two to research, plan, organise and prepare your content for the week ahead. This might sound like you are investing a lot of time, but the results that this time could return will mean that this time is definitely being well spent. This will save you a lot of time throughout the day. Often our days run away with us and before we know it you have only managed to achieve 4 out of 10 of your tasks that you had planned for the day. If you have to spend time thinking about what your next social media post is going then it is likely that you will disregard this task altogether. Instead if you have got a clear and well thought out and planned structure all you will have to do is hit the publish button.

Schedule In Advance
There are now plenty of tools such as Hootsuite that have been designed specifically to help with time management for social media to ensure that this important marketing method is not ignored. So when you have planned your content for the week you can upload it and schedule it in advance. This way you can relax and know that your social media channels will not be neglected but instead will be updated throughout the week.

Involve Others
Involve others – more often that not your clients will be more than happy to get involved so seize this fantastic opportunity as a means of further marketing and advertising. If you run a shop for example ask your clients permission if you can post a picture of them with their new outfit that they have just tried on, if you run a restaurant, why not ask your customers to upload a picture of your delicious food and tag your business in them, if you run a personal training business why not take a picture of the different gym equipment you are using throughout the day or better still post a video of your client working out… the opportunities are endless.

These 3 points are a great way of ensuring that your social media channels are regularly updated throughout the week. Now, be proactive – get out of the mindset that you are wasting time. If you are still not convinced then think of it this way… you would not ignore a client if they were willing to invest their cash in your products or services… so why are you ignoring a marketing method that could result in 10 x more people investing in your product or service.
