7 Steps To Your Best Website Yet

When building a website the first question you should ask yourself is who is the target audience. Once you have decided the target audience you can then build the website with your audience’s needs in mind.

The first observation when you enter a website is the layout and design of the website, if the website looks appealing you will continue on to the website. So layout and design are key in creating a great website. The layout must be simple and clear, so that it is easy to skim through and read, as many users will just want to find information fast. To get a great design and layout write every feature you want to include on each page, and then draw lots of design ideas, this will ensure that you have fitted every feature you wanted in to the website and found a great layout.

Another key feature of having a great website is the usability of the site, your navigation menu is what the majority of your users will use to navigate around the website. If you do not use a navigation bar you will lose a lot of users, as people don’t want to spend time going around the website trying to find the information that they want. It also breaks up the website into categories so the reader can easily look around the website.

Readability is the next factor of creating a great website, the text that you use should be in a language that the user of your website can relate to. The font should be easy to read, so try not to go for a font that is quite elaborate, as chances are your target audience will not be able to read the font. You also need to think about size, going to big will make your website look unprofessional and put users off, however going too small might restrict readers from viewing the text with ease. The usual font size is 11 or 12 as this is easy to read and looks professional.

You don’t just want text though you need to have a good ratio of text, interactive features and pictures. The ratio will depend on your website as some will need more pictures or images. Interactive features are important, these features may include videos, interactive galleries etc. Having these features makes the website slightly more interesting to the target audience, and is something that can keep them on the website.

The problem with having interactive features is that it decreases the download speed of your website, making the website a lot slower to load. So you want to bear in mind that when you do add features that it will reduce the speed of your website. Reducing the speed of your website will mean that the target audience will be less likely to use your website, but at the same time it is important to have interactive features so it is important to find a good balance.

You may have done all these things on your website and are still unable to generate visitors to your website… this is where search engine optimisation comes in. It is important that you try and get your target audience into the website, and the way you can do this is to increase the chances of people clicking through from organic searches on to your website. SEO is about bringing potential customers that will appreciate and pay for your services.

Follow these steps and start generating your online success today by creating your best website yet.
