Instagram Creates Business Profiles

Social media has allowed users to get close and personal to their favourite brand. In a bid to improve the features on offer for its 200,000 advertisers, Instagram has launched unique business profiles – which includes features such as a contact button allowing users to reach out with queries directly to brands.

By adding business profiles, Instagram is hoping to make it more obvious to users which accounts constitute as businesses. By signing up for a business profile, brands can also choose how they want their customers to get in touch and a ‘contact’ button will link directly through to a phone number or email address.

Instagram is also expanding the data it provides to advertisers. Its new Insights tool will give brands and marketers more information about their followers. The Facebook-owned photo sharing social network is also adding a ‘Promote’ tool for brands. It will mean popular posts can be promoted and placed higher in user feeds.

Online stylist brand Grabble was one of the first businesses to beta test the new Business Tools, who’ve found some interesting statistics about their content. Grabble previously thought that their audience was majority female, so they tended to post female-focused content. Thanks to Instagram’s update they found 21% of their followers are in fact male, demonstrating the usefulness that Insights can be to a company. As this Instagram feature was released under two weeks ago (15th August), it will be interesting to see how companies content will change due to this new update.

Note – this feature is slowly being rolled out to Instagram accounts so you might have to wait a little longer before it becomes available to you.
