Getting your website found for key phrases is as important as ever in 2013, perhaps even more so with the huge growth in ecommerce and mobile computing. Many of the methods to get found remain the same, clear code, easy navigation, proper meta tagging, links, etc.
But the ground rules are changing and it’s important to keep up and ideally get ahead of the competition. When we mention Social Media to many of our clients it’s often met with groans, even contempt by many, but it’s not going away! Facebook and Twitter have been increasing drivers of traffic to websites over the past few years and that situation is not going to change. But Google is still the main player in search, so how to make best use of it.
Google own YouTube and therefore love seeing video, especially YouTube video on your website. There’s lots of great ways to make video work for you, Introductions, Examples, Sale Demos and especially Video Explainers, those are short videos that show how your product works or how to set it up or install it.
Statistics show that you have about 8 seconds to grab a website visitor’s attention. The same stats show the average time watching a video is 2.47 MINUTES. That’s a lot more time to get your message across.
The final piece in the jigsaw is Google+, Google’s much derided social media platform. After a slow and inauspicious start Google+ is starting to get traction. Google+ is all about content, especially video and images, ideally linking to interesting articles and webpages.
Google, wearing its search engine hat, gives the best rankings to websites with great content and the best way for Google to know about great content is for it to get Likes and Shares on Google+ .
So in summary:
- Create great content, especially video, then use Google’s YouTube to embed it on your website
- Use Google+ to share your content and get Likes
- See your website rankings increase on Google.
